I’m Marta Rusin, the designer behind Fashion Fabrics Store. You may also know my work as Kociara on Spoonflower.

Illustration and textile design bring together the things I find most compelling: colour, detail and the endless possibilities of pattern. My collections draw on botanical forms, decorative arts and vintage textiles, with a particular fondness for the fluid lines of Art Nouveau and the geometry of Art Deco. Flowers and jewelled ornaments are recurring characters, appearing in designs that can be romantic, exuberant or a little unexpected.

Much of the pleasure lies in the composition: finding the right relationship between elements, changing their scale, or discovering a colour combination that gives a familiar motif an entirely different character. That pleasure continues when the illustration becomes something to wear or live with: a silk scarf, a favourite garment, or a textile that changes the character of a room. Seeing a design become part of someone’s everyday life is one of the most rewarding aspects of the work.

Fashion Fabrics Store makes these prints available on a range of fabrics, including pure silk, for garments and accessories. Each fabric is printed to order, ready to become part of someone else’s creative project. Bespoke print design and custom printing offer further scope to develop an individual idea.

That same enjoyment of creating patterns is at the heart of Patternata, the app I created to open up the process to others.
